TREATMENT OF ACNE SCARS IN LOS ANGELES USING LASERS
Acne scars can be very subtle in some patients. In others, acne scars on the face and back can be extreme and physically deforming.
Acne scars can be characterized by depressions in the skin, contour irregularities, thickened nodules, keloid scars, or generalized fibrosis and thickening of the skin leading to a loss in skin resiliency and skin elasticity. Regardless of the particular type of acne scarring, most patients do not realize that there are many options for acne scars that include laser, dermabrasion, subcision, surgery, and chemical peels.
Dr. Karamanoukian sees patients from all over the world for acne scarring. As a plastic surgeon, he has developed several non-invasive protocols for management of acne scars in patients of all complexions.

LASER ACNE SCAR REMOVAL AVAILABLE FOR FACIAL ACNE SCARS
Our office provides acne scar treatments with two innovative laser systems that tighten the skin and reduce skin imperfections; smoothe out uneven skin texture; reduce pigmentary issues related to longstanding inflammatory acne; and reduce redness associated with acne scars.
Laser acne scar reduction is changing the way we deal with depressed acne scars, pigmented acne scars, and red cystic acne scars. These conditions would cause considerable emotional and physical embarrassment for patients as they coped with the longterm consequences of permanent acne scars.
Now, laser treatments can be used to acheive specific therapeutic benefits in the management of acne scars. Laser dermatology focuses on specific elements of the acne scars, such as the brownish discoloration, the contour irregularities, and the persistent redness that accompanies severe acne. Dr. Karamanoukian has been performing these treatments for years and can effectively reduce the presence of an acne scar using multi-modality treatments such as laser skin resurfacing, laser redness removal, laser broken capillary removal, laser skin tightening, and laser ablation of contour irregularities and dimpling.
When used in combination with other acne treatments such as acne subcision, acne punch excision, acne dermabrasion, and acne surgery, laser acne removal can make significant changes to the acne scars.
SUBCISION FOR ACNE SCARS AVAILABLE IN LOS ANGELES
Subcision is one method of improving deep acne scars and contour-deforming acne scars on the face. The most common types of acne scars that can be improved with subcision include those with a low depth-to-width ratio and tethering of the scar floor to the underlying tissue layer.
Subcision is a non-surgical technique for acne scar removal. The procedure involves the use of a small beveled blade that is inserted under the skin very much like a needle. The beveled blade is then used to release the scar tissue that is tethering the acne scar to the deeper tissue. Once performed, the subcision 'pops up' the acne scar and restores a more uniform contour to the skin.
Since the point of entry into the skin is similar to a needlestick, there is no cutting or suturing necessary and the healing period is minimized. Patients may experience bruising and swelling that can be improved with the use of a BruisePak or BruiseStick antibruising product.
Results of subcision are seen almost immediately and continue to improve as collagen is deposited at the base of the acne scar. Patients who have seen limited improvement in Fraxel laser, pixelated laser, and ablative laser treatments for acne scars may benefit from this deeper treatment.
QUESTIONS ABOUT ACNE SCAR TREATMENT IN LOS ANGELES
Will microdermabrasion improve acne scars on the face? Microdermabrasion will help reduce active acne pimples and inflammatory acne cysts that are clogged, but will likely not improve acne scars that penetrate the dermis. Microdermabrasion should be used in conjunction with deeper treatments for acne scars such as laser, dermabrasion, subcision, and acne surgery.
Can you get rid of keloid scars caused by acne scars on my chest? Yes. We treat acne scar related keloid scars regularly. Treatment involves surgery, topical agents, pressure treatment, laser treatment, and injections.
