BETA HYDROXY ACIDS: are lipid- soluble organic acids. This oil solubility allows a beta hydroxy acid to concentrate its exfoliation action on the lipid-rich outer layers of the skin. SALICYLIC ACID: Salicylic is an excellent keratolytic agent. It is thought to function through solubilization of inter-cellular cement, thereby reducing corneocyte adhesion. because of its lipophilic nature, salicylic has a strong comedolytic effect. In a study treating Asian patients with acne, they showed that salicylic acids's ability to dissolve into the sebum-filled follicles of acne-prone patients makes it an excellents choice for these types of conditions. Lower percent formulations (10%), solution, is best used at 3-4 week intervals to produce minimal exfoliation, reduce comedones in acne patients and decrease demodex colonization in individuals with rosacea.
