BETA HYDROXY ACIDS:  are lipid- soluble organic acids.  This oil solubility allows a beta hydroxy acid to concentrate its exfoliation action on the lipid-rich outer layers of the skin.  BHAs are used primarily to treat acne-prone skin and those with distinct hyperkeratosis.  Here are some commonly discussed  BHAs.

SALICYLIC ACID:   Salicylic  is an excellent keratolytic agent.  It is thought to function through solubilization of inter-cellular cement, thereby reducing corneocyte adhesion.  because of its lipophilic nature, salicylic has a strong comedolytic effect.  In a study treating Asian patients with acne, they showed that salicylic acids's ability to dissolve into the sebum-filled follicles of acne-prone patients makes it an excellents choice for these types of conditions.  Its anti-inflammatory properties make it beneficial to all acne patients, but especially to those with ethnic skin that is prone to hyperpigmentation.  Lower percent formulations (10%), solution, is best used  at 3-4 week intervals to produce minimal exfoliation, reduce comedones in acne patients and decrease demodex colonization in individuals with rosacea.  Salicylic acids ability to reduce demodex mites in the skin of rosacea patients is an important addition to our understanding of how to help patients fighting rosacea.

CLARIFYING MASK:   20% Salicylic acid.  Excellent treatment for skin types that suffer from dull, rough, impacted or breakout prone skin. It is appropriate for all skin types.  Clarifying mask reduces inflammation to create even, healthy skin.  It exfoliates the impacted surface cells allowing new cells to rise to the surface, giving the skin a bright, smooth appearance.  The inclusion of cherry extract and wild cherry bark extract to control inflammatory responses and calm the skin.  Naturally sourced salicylic acid clears blocked follicles of excess cell debris leaving the skin smooth and glowing.  This action also helps to eradicate clogged pores and acne conditions. A rosy glow is expected following treatment due to increased circulation.  This increased blow flow helps to bring needed oxygen and nutrients to the skin.
