Hydrafacial FAQ: Los Angeles

What is the Hydrafacial?  The Hydrafacial is the latest innovation in facials and cosmetic skincare.  The Hydrafacial system incorporates key elements of skin rejuvenation, including microdermabrasion, dermolipoinfusion, enzymatic cleansing of large and clogged pores, and chemical peeling all in one.  In essence, the Hydrafacial system exfoliates dead skin cells and extracts impurities and blackheads with a vacuum-based skin abrasion tip while stimulating the blood and ymphatic flow.  The healthy underlying skin is then infused with key nutrients, antioxidants, and active serums that are specifically tailored to your skin type.

In Dr. Karamanoukian's office, we utilize a specialized protocol for medical facials that incorporates the hydrafacial system.  Our medical facials use the dermolipoinfusion system contained within the Hydrafacial armamentarium as well as a specialized protocol of microdermabrasion and chemical exfoliation. Your skin will look refreshed and exhilarating for a party or event.

What results can be expected with the Hydrafacial?   The Hydrafacial visibly diminishes the appearance of undereye puffiness, melasma (skin pigmentation), hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, fine lines, blackheads, open and closed comedones, oily skin, acne prone skin, acne breakouts, and cystic acne flare ups.  The Hydrafacial refines skin tone and skin texture and improves the suppleness and elasticity of the skin.

Is there any downtime with the Hydrafacial vs. other medical facials?  The Hydrafacial is the most powerful and effective facial and skin rejuvenation protocol on the market.  Downtime is minimal with the Hydrafacial. It usually takes about 45 minutes to perform and there is no immediate or prolonged downtime.

Who can be treated with the Hydrafacial? The Hydrafacial with dermolipoinfusion and microdermabrasion can be used with any skin type, whether fair, olive tone, or dark complexioned.  Patients with acne on their skin, oily skin, and inflamed skin with large pores and rosacea are ideal candidates for the Hydrafacial.

Dr. Karamanoukian recommends a dermolipoinfusion Hydrafacial for all acne patients on a monthly basis.

How soon will I see results with the Hydrafacial system? Results can be seen immediately.  Most patients experience visible skin refinement, a decrease in acne breakouts, a reduction in active acne cysts, diminished oiliness, and a radiant skin tone after just one Hydrafacial treatment.  These immediate results can last approximately one to three weeks.  For longer term results, Dr. Karamanoukian recommends a series of three to six Hydrafacial treatments at one to two week intervals.  These treatments will improve fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, oily skin, acne breakouts, and large pores.  To maintain your results, we also recommend a Hydrafacial treatment at least once to twice per month thereafter.

Can the Hydrafacial be combined with other procedures?  The Hydrafacial should be used in conjunction with a flexible, but potent, skin care program such as the Kare Pore Clarifying Pads, the Obagi Nuderm system, or a more gradual prescription strength program containing retinoids.  The TR Complex cream is an ideal skin care regimen for daily evening use.   You can also tailor the Hydrafacial program to incorporate several other important treatments, such as:

1) Diamond Abrasion: In this technique, a diamond crystal microtip is used to mechanically exfoliate the skin and remove direct impurities from closed comedones.  This treatment is ideal for oily skin and for patients who are acne prone.  At times, a more aggressive diamond dermabrasion may be combined with the Hydrafacial to smoothe out acne scars.

2) Kare Diamond Microdermabrasion (KDM): This specialized microdermabrasion is similar to the Diamond Abrasion technique.  However, the KDM treatment was developed by Dr. Karamanoukian to be more precise and soothing for sensitive and reactive skin types.

3) LED Light Therapy: Infrared LED RED light therapy is an important advancement in skin rejuvenation.  It is used after the Hydrafacial to stimulate collagen production in the dermis.  It can also be used to enhance the results of acne treatments when used in conjunction with Blue Infrared Light.

4) LED Light Therapy: Infrared LED BLUE light therapy is also an important advancement for acne treatments.  The Blue light makes use of the photosensitization of bacteria that are responsible for acne flare ups.  If you have acne prone skin, make sure to discuss this option with our office.

5) Booster TNS Therapy: The TNS serum is an effective combination of physiologically-active chemicals and serums that stimulate improvements in skin elasticity, skin texture, and reduce the appearance of age spots, uneven skin tone, and blotchiness.

6) Radiant Antioxidant Peel: Dr. Karamanoukian developed this very effective combination of polyhydroxy acids and retinoic acid to treat active acne, stimulate cell turnover, reduce active precancerous lesions, and improve overall skin resiliency.  The Radiant Antioxidant peel usually leaves patients exhilarated with an overall improvement in skin glow.  Use this peel when you want dramatic improvement without the downtime of typical peels.
