SURGERY AFTER MASSIVE WEIGHT LOSS AND LAP BAND SURGERY
Bariatric Surgery is a common surgical procedure to reduce the desire for food, and hence reduce weight in patients that are overweight. Bariatric or weight loss surgery patients often lose 100 pounds or more, necessitating plastic surgery to reduce the excess skin and fat that remains. Patients who have undergone bariatric surgery, stomach stapling, lap band surgery may be concerned with the following areas that require plastic surgery.
1) Sagging Facial Skin – Facial rejuvenation can be achieved by lifting areas of excessive sagging, such as the upper and lower eyelids (blepharoplasty), face (facelift), neck (necklift or chin liposuction), or forehead (browlift). Ironically, some patients may also require facial fillers to areas of facial wasting such as the cheeks, lips, and undereyes.
2) Sagging breast skin or droopiness. A breast reduction, breast lift (mastopexy), or breast augmentation may be required to lift up droopy breasts, reduce residual breast tissue, and/or replace upper chest fullness after massive weight loss.
3) Sagging abdominal skin – Abdominoplasty, panniculectomy, or complete body lifts may be required to reduce the excessive overhang of skin and fat after massive weight loss. These procedures can be accomplished in a hospital or outpatient surgical center.
4) Sagging arm skin – An arm lift (brachioplasty) or liposuction of the arms can be performed to reduce residual skin and fat from the arms after massive weight loss.
5) Sagging thigh skin – A thigh lift can be performed to remove skin and fat from the inner thighs.
