QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT EYELID SURGERY

Do men typically undergo blepharoplasty surgery?  Yes.  Dr. Karamanoukian performs blepharoplasty surgery on both men and women. Men can have excessive eyelid hooding as a result of genetic factors, sun exposure, and premature dermatochalasia resulting from chronic inflammation or eczema.

If you are concerned about how you will look after your blepharoplasty, do not be.  Dr. Karamanoukian will ensure that your results are natural.

Will blepharoplasty affect my vision? No.  Although we are very close to the eye, blepharoplasty does not affect the eye itself and will not cause changes in vision.  Dr. Karamanoukian will go over your medical history, including vision, before surgery to ensure a positive outcome without problems or complications.

Can I wear contacts after blepharoplasty surgery?  Not immediately.  You may want to have an extra pair of glasses handy during the first week of the procedure.  Afterwards, you are allowed to wear contacts as usual.

Will I develop swelling after blepharoplasty?  Eyelid surgery will cause some minor and transient swelling that usually subsides with the application of ice packs after surgery.  It is important to avoid strenuous exercise or duties immediately after surgery.

Can I use Bruise-Pak after blepharoplasty?  Yes.  Dr. Karamanoukian will advise you on the preoperative Bruise-Pak medications to be taken before and after surgery.

Does a blepharoplasty affect eyebrow position?  Yes and no.  Blepharoplasty will not remove skin above the eyebrow, but it will allow patients who have heavy eyelids to relax their forehead after surgery. These patients have such heavy eyebrows and eyelids that they constantly raise their brows to see.    This may relieve tension headaches that are caused by heavy eyelids.

Can I go to work after blepharoplasty?  Not immediately.  Dr. Karamanoukian recommends a few days off before returning to work.
