What type of breast implants does Dr. Karamanoukian use for his breast augmentation surgeries? There are many different types of breast implants on the market.  Mentor and Allergan / Natrelle implants are the most common breast implants and these companies offer many varieties of implants that vary in terms of size, shape, and dimension.  Dr. Karamanoukian works closely with both companies, Natrelle and Mentor in order to individualize the implants to each patient.  

Can I get a mammogram after breast augmentation? Yes.  Mammograms are very important for breast cancer screening whether you have breast implants or not.  Dr. Karamanoukian recommends annual breast mammograms if you have a family history of breast cancer or if you are above the age of 40.  With breast implants, there is a slightly diminished visualization of the entire breast parenchyma and a special modification of the mammogram will be performed called the Eklund technique to visual more of the breast tissue.  In the Los Angeles area, there are plenty of mammogram centers that perform this technique and it is rarely a problem to perform or order.  Dr. Karamanoukian has had great experience with the breast center at City of Hope Hospital and highly recommends their mammographic services for routine or specialized mammograms.

Are there different styles of silicone implants? Yes.  Dr. Karamanoukian will discuss these different silicone breast implant types with your during your consultation with him in his Los Angeles office.  There are high profile, moderate profile, and low profile implants that vary in their height to width ratio.  Silicone breast implants generally retain their shape after implantation and provide a natural breast contour after surgery.  Currently, the tear drop implant has fallen out of favor in comparison the smooth, round silicone breast implants.
