Dupuytren's contracture is a benign hand condition characterized by a palpable cord in the palm and fingers of the hand.  In many cases, it can render the hand dysfunctional, as patients cannot extend the finger or the palm completely.  Xiaflex works by enzymatically disrupting the collagen that is contained within the hand and finger cord.  As a result of the collagen breakdown, the hand contracture is released and softened.  This may result in increased flexibility of the joint and hand; and softening or gradual disappearance of the palpable cord.
