Facial fat grafting procedures are performed in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia, if requested, or under intravenous sedation or general sedation in patients who request sedation during their procedures. Most patients undergo facial fat grafting in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia. After the surgery is complete, you will have time to recover in the recovery area and are then administered surgical dressings and provided with postoperative instructions. Most patients are discharged home within one or two hours of their surgery.
Postoperatively, patients will notice minor discomfort and bruising along the area of fat harvesting and the areas of injection. Bruising and swelling are controlled by application of ice packs and oral administration of Bruise-Pak products to reduce postoperative ecchymoses. You will notice some swelling in the area that usually subsides within several days of your procedure
